Description

Academician Dechko Uzunov was born in Kazanlak on 22.02.1899. At the age of 35 he became a professor of fine and decorative art at the Academy of Arts in Sofia and a member of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. In 1976 he was elected President of the International Association of Plastic Arts at UNESCO-AGAR, and in 1982 he was elected a member of the European Academy of Science and Art. Dechko Uzunov's birth house was restored by the Kazanlak Municipality during his lifetime, but was opened to the public in 1987, after his death. Fulfilling Dechko Uzunov's will, his wife Olga Uzunova donated 93 of his works to the gallery, which are exhibited in his native house. The exposition is located in the four rooms of the house and in a specially built exhibition hall. The most significant part of the donation is presented. On display are 21 paintings from different creative periods, donated by Olga Uzunova, as well as 4 works by Dechko Uzunov, donated by the artist's nephews Atanas and Hristo Neykov. In the exhibition hall 42 watercolours and drawings by the artist are exhibited together with his last self-portrait.
