Zhrebchevo Dam

In 1965 the village, which was named after - Zhrebchevo was submerged in the lake. It is situated on 25,000 acres. There is a church that to this day has remained there. Since summer dam is used to irrigate the surrounding farmland, its levels are often significantly reduced. The walls of the church you can see up to where it reached the water. The dam is a haven for waterfowl, some of them are listed in the Red Book of Bulgaria. The dam has been named an Important Bird Area.
