Description

Between the village of Yasenovo and the town of Shipka in 1995 was discovered an unbuilt Thracian tomb from the 3rd century BC - Sasheva mound. It was built from stone blocks of three ruined tombs and belonged to a noble Thracian warlord. For the first time, his horse was buried in the burial chamber. This monumental stone tomb has a 13-metre corridor and two rectangular rooms. Among its other merits, it stands out for the fact that it is the first unbuilt representative tomb in Bulgarian lands found during archaeological excavations. The horse was accompanied only by an iron bridle, several rings and buckles of silver and iron. The personal belongings of the ruler lay on the lodge or fell into the gaps between it and the walls. On the floor, beside the bed, are several earthen vessels and fragments fallen from the lodge. The other objects in the tomb are gifts or possessions that were meant to serve the deified ruler in the afterlife, according to Thracian beliefs.
