Description

Shushmanets - the temple masterpiece of Thracian architecture. The burial chamber is a volos with vertical walls and seven built-in Doric columns. The design and execution of the dome are unusual. A pilaster is modelled above each half-column, and the top of the dome structure consists of 15 radial blocks resting on the Doric column in the centre of the chamber. Three successive renderings can be seen, indicating at least three periods of construction in the use of the complex. Aside from the animals (4 horses and 2 dogs sacrificed and documented on the floor of the antechamber), there is no published information on the presence of other inventory, including dating materials.
